Sustainable Community Economic Development

ITLI's SCED PROJECT (COMING SOON), IN THE MIDDLE EAST

“Lebanon is in the grip of an economic crisis described by the World Bank as one of the worst in modern history. Lebanon’s situation is further exacerbated by the hosting of a large number of Syrian refugees – the country shelters an estimated 1.5 million Syrian refugees, alongside 11,645 refugees of other nationalities – which poses great pressure on the country’s infrastructure.”

In Lebanon, ITLI is deeply committed to addressing the urgent needs of refugee communities, by empowering them to achieve economic self-sufficiency. Through our program, we collaborate closely with refugees, providing essential support through economic development and entrepreneurship opportunities, to help them establish and expand their own businesses. Our goal is to equip refugees with the skills and resources needed to thrive as entrepreneurs, enabling them to support their families and meet their basic needs, including food, shelter, and clothing. By offering practical solutions to the challenges faced by refugees, we not only uplift individuals but also contribute to the economic development of host communities, fostering opportunities for employment and economic growth.

Lebanon is at the forefront of one of the most significant humanitarian crises worldwide, hosting the largest number of refugees per capita and per square kilometer globally. With an estimated 1.5 million Syrian refugees and 11,645 refugees of other nationalities, the country faces severe socio-economic challenges. ITLI recognizes the critical importance of global support in alleviating the hardships faced by millions in Lebanon. Through our initiatives we strive to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by the crisis.

In the heart of the Syrian refugee crisis, children confront unimaginable challenges daily, with many forced into early marriage or labor as a means of survival. Meanwhile, Syrian widows grapple with societal stigma and prejudice, compounded by economic hardship and the absence of their husbands. Against this backdrop, ITLI remains dedicated to providing comprehensive support and sustainable solutions to refugees in Lebanon. As poverty rates continue to rise and economic stability remains elusive, our commitment to empowering individuals and fostering resilience has never been more vital. Through our initiatives, we aim to uplift and transform lives, offering hope and opportunity to those facing the greatest adversity.
